PiWi, short for the German term “Pilzwiderstandsfähige Reben” (yes! really hard to pronouce!) refers to fungus-resistant grape varieties that boast exceptional resistance to vine diseases like powdery and downy mildew. By crossing classic grape varieties, such as Chardonnay, with disease-resistant ones, Anselmi has created hybrids that retain the beloved aroma and flavour characteristics of traditional grapes while significantly reducing the need for chemical treatments. This approach not only ensures healthier vineyards but also results in superior wine quality – even amidst the challenges posed by climate change.

In their never-ending pursuit of excellence, after years of experimentation, Anselmi has introduced three remarkable PiWi grape varieties into their production: Aromera, Riesling Resistente (Resistant Riesling), and Souvignier Gris.
